Happy Horse Course with Linda Parelli

2019: Florida Mar 4-14 • Colorado Jun 17-27

Due to the unprecedented success of Linda Parelli’s Happy Horse Clinics, we are excited to offer the 10-Day version! On the last day, everyone said how much they wished this was a much longer course.

10 days gives you the opportunity to explore what it takes to have a happy horse in every way, and in all Four Savvys.
Get ready to explore horse psychology in order to really understand what makes horses happy and what you can do to ensure that.

What is a Happy Horse?

There are three things that a horse needs to be happy. Do you know what they are? To answer this question, you need to understand the mind of the horse and know his primary needs. Unlike humans, horses don’t have a frontal lobe to the brain, so their needs are very simple: Safety, Comfort, and Play.

And, even when people know that horses need to feel safe, comfortable and get to play – they still don’t really know how to do that. For your horse to be happy, you need to be able to resolve tension, teach them to seek relief from pressure and love learning. This course will truly transform you as a leader, a rider and a horse psychologist!

If we fulfill these needs, a horse can be happy. But if these needs are not met then we can be sure the horse is stressed, uncomfortable, fearful, or bored. This, in turn, leads to mental, emotional, and physical illness.

A happy horse is a healthy horse, without behavior problems. A happy horse tries harder, loves to learn, enjoys training, is healthier, and has a positive relationship with its rider.

10-DAY COURSE

2019: Florida Mar 4-14 • Colorado Jun 17-27

Course Topics Include:

Exploring horse psychology: Safety, Comfort, Play

These three elements are the most important motivations for horses.  We’ll look into them more deeply and use them as a theme to underscore everything we do on the ground and when riding.
It is one of the most powerful things to understand with horses.

How horses think, doing what’s important to them

Learn to see the horse’s point of view in all situations.  When we give them what they need, they’ll give us what we want.  The key is knowing what they need at that moment!

Applying psychology when training

How do you provide safety?  How do you provide comfort?  How do you make it a game?  When you know how to do these three things it will revolutionize your results and your clarity about what to do when and why.

On Line

Take your ground skills to a new level on a 12’ line, 22’, 45’, and the Feather Line.  Solve problems and advance.

Liberty

Playing at liberty inside and outside of a round corral;  in groups, and with more than one horse in a round corral.

FreeStyle

Explore more effective communication without using the reins, develop your independent seat, and develop more confidence in yourself as well as in your horse.

Finesse

Become a more polished and knowledgable rider.  Improve your horse’s biomechanics as you improve your own!

Leadership

What is the role of a leader?  What do horses look for?  Its time to step up your leadership skills!

Rider position, effectiveness in the saddle

What makes a good rider… from the horse’s point of view?!
This is not so much about advanced techniques as much as it is about learning how to sit well, to use your body fluidly and communicate clearly through your body language.
You want to look good and feel good to your horse!

Goals and strategies

Managing your horse’s progress (and yours) is simple when you know how to make goals and plan your pathway to achieving them.  No matter how simple or lofty, goals are motivating, and strategies are empowering.

Horsenality

Getting clear on your horse’s Horsenality and your own Humanality helps you hone your approach and is one of the big secrets of success with horses.

Learn how to understand your horse at a deeper level and how to quickly read any horse’s Horsenality.

Fear issues, building confidence in horses

As prey animals, horses are naturally fearful. When your horse is afraid you need to retreat – and there are several ways to do this!  Learn how to help your horse become braver in all situations – on the ground and riding.

Dominance and the importance of yielding

Dominant horses dominate other horses and also some humans!  The answer lies in making sure your horse knows how to yield – mentally, emotionally and physically.

How to make everything A Game!

Making it a Game fulfills your horse’s need to play, but it also has wonderful effects on your horse’s capacity to think, solve problems and take more responsibility in its relationship with you.

This is one of the most important keys to training using psychology and also improving a horse’s motivation and focus.

Learn more about the beautiful Florida and Colorado Centers

Florida Center

Say hello to the warm, gentle, balmy breeze with a hint of sea and sawgrass rolling over the blackboard lined manicured fields of Ocala. The campus boasts all the amenities that Colorado has including an “Adventure Park” for horses. Take an extra day and ride on the beach. The white sand, fine as sugar, the blue ocean crashing against the beach, salt water scenting the air.

Our Florida campus is magical in a very unique and different way than our Colorado Campus. The landscape is more polished. Pastures manicured and mowed, hedges neatly shaped. The hills have a rolling effect rather than steep rocky crags. Huge robust Oak trees with Spanish moss dripping down off the branches, offering a sumptuous snack for our equine friends, replace the more pointed pine trees. Tall, lithe, white Egrets wade through the ponds, chirping their song to the wind.

Colorado Center

Ever dream of spending all day with your horse under the brilliant blue skies of the Colorado Rockies. The fresh scent of pine trees wafting on the breeze, hawks floating on the current above, seemingly riding the wind. Just you and your horse, strolling along cool mountain trails, over green fields with the scent of warm grass ready to be cut, gently caressing your senses.

As far as the eye can see are white-capped tips of the majestic Rocky Mountains! Pagosa Peak the tallest, presiding majestically over the others like the North Star in the heavens.

The continental divide just a breath away.

Both campuses offer a magical and unique experience and are sure to be a life-changing adventure for you and your horse.

How many hours do we spend outside with horses vs. in the classroom?

The majority of your day is spent outside with your horse! There is some classroom time where necessary. Information is delivered in the format that is best suited for it to be retained.

For example, many times theory sessions need a student’s full focus so is better delivered in the classroom. Other information is best delivered through hands-on simulations or demonstrations. Rest assured our goal is to deliver the information to you in the best manner possible.

In the unlikely event that the weather does not permit outside horse-time there are plenty of learning opportunities to cover inside until it clears up again.
